Most people need a dental crown at some point in their lives. These protective ceramic caps restore a tooth’s function and appearance. At many offices, getting a crown takes two appointments. With same-day crowns using CEREC® technology, Helotes Family Dentistry can get everything done in only a few hours. Read on to learn more.
What Are CEREC Crowns?
CEREC uses advanced technology for the crown process instead of the usual trays or molds. With the digital CEREC device, our dentists take a picture of your tooth. These images are sent to a computer where we design the crown. We have a milling machine right in the office to make the crown from a ceramic block. This means you don’t need to wait for weeks while an outside lab makes your crown. Our whole process takes just 1-2 hours!
When Are CEREC Crowns Used?
CEREC same-day crowns can fix a variety of issues. If your tooth is worn or cracked, a crown will keep it protected and strong. Crowns are also used after root canals, to secure dental bridges, and to complete dental implants. We can even use crowns for purely cosmetic purposes to cover discolored or misshapen teeth.
Caring for CEREC Crowns
Same-day crowns are cared for like traditional dental crowns. You want to be sure to clean the crown carefully, brushing all around and over the surface. Flossing daily is also important. If you grind your teeth at night, consider getting a nightguard to protect your crown from fracturing. With good care, dental crowns can last a very long time.
