As the kids head back to school and daily routines begin to form, do not forget to help your children develop healthy oral hygiene habits! At Helotes Family Dentistry, many of our team are parents ourselves and know just how hard it can be to make oral hygiene a priority in the midst of homework and soccer practice and dance recitals and whatever other activities your family participates in. We’ve put together the following tips to make brushing a breeze in your busy household.
1. Plan Ahead
We know as well as anyone how quickly schedules can fill up once school starts. Make your family’s oral health a priority and plan ahead by booking your appointments now for the entire year. Our office can accommodate family block appointments so the whole crew can have their teeth cleaned in one trip, saving you time.
2. Make it a Habit
If possible, have your kids brush their teeth at about the same time in the morning and at night. They’ll grow accustomed to brushing at the same time and have an easier time remembering to do so. Depending on your kids’ ages, you can make brushing a family affair so that you can give younger children the supervision they need.
3. Throw in Some Fun
Brushing doesn’t have to be a chore! Motivate your children to do a good job brushing their teeth by playing their favorite song, allowing them to pick out their toothbrush and toothpaste, or by creating a rewards system. If you can turn brushing into a game, even better!
Even if establishing an oral hygiene routine is difficult at first, you should remember that you are giving your kids the tools they need to ensure their teeth develop to be healthy and strong.
